Despite facing unexpected challenges following the recent fire at Carihi Secondary, the school community came together to demonstrate its resilience, compassion, and unwavering school spirit. Prior to the fire, Ms. Perras' social justice class and Ms. Thompson's student leadership team had been busy organizing Compassion at Carihi — a charity drive supporting the Knights of Columbus, the Angel Tree Society, the Campbell River Food Bank, and marginalized individuals within the community.

In the aftermath of the fire, the decision to continue with Compassion at Carihi was unanimous. The student body rallied together, collecting a massive array of donations, including toys, clothing, food, blankets, books, backpacks, and socks, to support those in need. This overwhelming effort showcased the strength of the Carihi spirit and the students’ dedication to making a difference, even in difficult times.

One of the highlights of the event was the return of a beloved Carihi tradition: the KD Cup Challenge. During this school spirit activity, classes took the macaroni and cheese they gathered for the food drive and competed to build the tallest freestanding tower. The winning class was awarded the coveted KD Cup trophy—a fun and spirited way to bring the school together while supporting a worthy cause.

This year, Mr. Deagle’s class took home the KD Cup honors, marking a triumphant moment of unity and celebration. After the challenges Carihi has faced in recent weeks, the KD Cup Challenge was a joyful reminder of the school’s enduring traditions, the resilience of its students and staff, and the power of community.
