Late French Immersion

The Campbell River School District has offered a highly successful Late French Immersion program since 1986. The Late French Immersion program starts in grade 6 (or grade 7 in some cases) and is offered at École Phoenix Middle School, a dual track school.

In grade 8, Late French Immersion students join Early French Immersion students in classes. They are expected to achieve the same proficiency in all areas of learning.

After grade 8, Late French Immersion students continue the program at Carihi Secondary School for grades 9 to 12. Students who complete French immersion to grade 12 will graduate with a Diplôme de fin d’études secondaire en Colombie-Britannique, also known as a Double Dogwood.

Registration beings after an information session in mid-February. Parents will know by the first week in April if their child has been accepted or placed on a waitlist.

The Late French Immersion program accepts up to 28 students each year due to class size limits. Siblings of existing French Immersion students have a priority for registration. After 28 registrations, additional students are placed on a waitlist.
